Itinerary Recommendations

Arrive at 1872 Inn and check in with our friendly staff.  Our staff will be happy to provide you with area information and deliver luggage to your room.  Our property is located at within five blocks of restaurants, gift shops, and activities.  After a casual dinner at Wild West Pizzeria or Slippery Otter Pub, you may choose to enjoy a live play at the Playmill Theater or learn about Yellowstone’s history and fascinating geological wonders that the Yellowstone IMAX Theater. 

Make your way to the West Entrance to Yellowstone located on Yellowstone Avenue to be amazed by Yellowstone’s most famous features.  After entering the park, watch for Yellowstone’s famous bison and other wildlife such as bald eagles, elk, deer, etc.  Turn right at Madison Junction.  Soon after, you will see a sign to Firehole Canyon Drive, which will bring you to a beautiful, don’t-miss waterfall.  On your way to Old Faithful, you will see many pullouts with geysers, boiling mud pots, as well as the famous Grand Prismastic hot pool (located at Midway Geyser Basin).  After taking your time touring the area, make your way to Old Faithful and enjoy lunch in the sun while you wait for the world’s most famous geyser.  The exhibits at the Old Faithful Visitor’s Center are also a great way to spend your time while you are waiting to find a perfect spot for viewing.  You may also hike along the many boardwalks and trails around the area to explore the abundant geological features.  Next, make your way to the Lake Yellowstone Hotel at Yellowstone Lake for a delicious huckleberry ice cream.  Take in the alluring views of Yellowstone Lake and the beautiful Lake Yellowstone Hotel.  Just a few miles down the road, stop at Fishing Bridge and walk across the Yellowstone River while spotting fish below.  On your way back to West Yellowstone, you will drive through Hayden Valley, a great opportunity area for bear, moose, bison, and coyote sightings.  Try the local favorite, Buffalo Bar for dinner tonight.

Wake up early and enjoy a quick breakfast before heading to Ernie’s Deli for a boxed lunch to go before spending another fabulous day in Yellowstone.  The first stop today will be Norris Geyser Basin.  Stroll the boardwalks of Yellowstone’s hottest, oldest, and most dynamic of thermal areas.  Continue to Mammoth Hot Springs to visit the newly renovated visitor’s center and enjoy your picnic lunch.  Moving on to Tower Falls, you will see amazing wildlife and breathtaking views.  The last stop of the day will be Artist’s Point for spectacular views of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.  If you are feeling energetic and adventurous, you may choose to hike Uncle Tom’s Trail, which is a steep stairway descent from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone that offers a viewpoint near the base of the Lower Yellowstone Falls.  The sides of the canyon will tower around you as you are engulfed by the amazing sounds, colors, and scenery.  Head back to West Yellowstone for a casual, but delicious meal at Firehole BBQ or Wild West Pizza.



  

Book your morning whitewater rafting adventure on the Gallatin River with Montana Whitewater Company. The meeting area will be 45 minutes north near Big Sky, Montana. Be on the lookout for grizzly bears, moose, sandhill cranes, deer, and elk on your drive. After your rafting adventure, explore the world-famous Big Sky Ski area and enjoy an afternoon gondola ride for amazing views. Continue south to the Riverhouse BBQ or 320 Guest Ranch for dinner. Alternatively, book an exciting and scenic helicopter tour with Yellowstone Helicopters. Tours are available from West Yellowstone. In the afternoon, you may choose a horseback ride with Diamond P Ranch or explore the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center to experience the world of grizzly bears and wolves. Madison Crossing Lounge offers a unique menu and relaxing dining experience for dinner.
